The second annual Els for Autism Golf Tournament was held August 31 at the Glencoe Golf and Country Club. There were 62 golfers compared to 64 last year. Over $40,000.00 was raised for support of the Autism Aspergers Friendship Society to provide respite and recreational services for children and adults on the autism spectrum. This is a 60% increase over last year. The winning team were not the best golfers, but the ones that raised the most money for autism in Calgary and that was Team Chistay and “The Doctor”, Gary Chiste, second place went to Team Freedom led by Gary Vickers. Both teams will be going to the Grand Gala event held in Los Vegas, where they will join Ernie Els and his wife Liezl in a two day extravaganza of golf and entertainment.
For the first time this year, 20 young people on the Autism Spectrum participated in the Ernie Els #GameON Autism Golf clinic. With the help from local golf pros these individuals were able to experience the fun and frustration of the great game of golf.
