Posted: November 3, 2016 in General Autism News
Autism Summit Part 2: Services & Treatment took place on Friday, October 21, 2016 at the Alberta Children’s Hospital with support from the Calgary Section of Community Pediatrics and the Sinneave Family Foundation. It was attended by professionals, agencies, and service providers who are involved in the diagnosis and/or treatment of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The purpose of this event was to review and expand on the discussion that took place during Autism Summit Part 1 regarding diagnosis and access to funding, to provide a venue for networking, and to share information regarding intervention services.
The event was organized by pediatrician Dr. Kristin Evashuk and a number programs were featured including Child Development Services (CDS) ASD Clinic, Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD), and the Triple P Parenting Program – Stepping Stones. Over 100 professionals, agency representatives and educational staff were in attendance all of whom support individuals and families with ASD. In the afternoon, a discussion was held on how to best support parents in finding appropriate ASD services and programs in the community. This event will hopefully result in families affected by ASD being provided with more cohesive and comprehensive diagnostic, funding, and intervention services.
